George West High School • George West, TX

In most secondary school systems astronomy is little more than footnote in the science education curriculum. Yet astronomy draws upon the fundamental concepts of physics, chemistry, mathematics, and even biology to come to an understanding of the deepest truths of the universe. With this in mind the STARS (South Texas Astronomical Research for Students) project is a program administered by the George West Independent School District in George West, Texas. Its purpose is to offer high school teachers and their students the opportunity to conduct real research in astronomy and renewable energy generation technology.
