Academic Enrichment Grant 2026-2027 Project Summary

This project establishes the Civic Data Lab, an interdisciplinary initiative serving 185 students at a Title I high school in Georgia. Through a collaborative Geometry and AP Statistics curriculum, students will use ArcGIS mapping software and TI-Nspire graphing technology to investigate the distribution of community resources and infrastructure. Working with real-world data, students will create maps, analyze patterns, and apply statistical methods to better understand issues affecting their local community.

Students will present their work at Clayton State University and develop Digital Equity Portfolios showcasing their research and quantitative skills. Students will also create a public online collection of policy memos proposing data-driven solutions to community challenges. By connecting mathematics and technology to issues students see in their own communities, the Civic Data Lab will strengthen quantitative literacy, develop STEM skills, elevate student voice, and provide a model for interdisciplinary learning that can be replicated in other schools.
