Educate the Facilitator

Teacher Development Grant 2023-2024 Project Summary

Aliyah Shepard

Equality Charter School • Bronx, NY

This grant will help community efforts by increasing the capacity of educators on the Racial Equity Committee. To prepare to lead in-house professional development for staff members,  they would like to start an Educate the Facilitator Program. This program will support the committee’s ability to provide ongoing professional development and it will help community stay up to date on matters that impact our staff, scholars and their families.

Specifically, ETF (Educate The Facilitator) will offer members the opportunity to read a variety of texts that illuminate important moments in our nation’s history that have contributed to the current state of race relations and to consider how aspects of schooling have been impacted by these relations. Further, these sessions will allow the team to engage in important dialogue about long-held beliefs, new perspectives and ways of engaging with scholars based on new learning. Finally, through this program members will be able to practice delivering meaningful professional development sessions with the ability to answer challenging questions about race, equity and their effects on individuals in our school community and the world.
