Academic Enrichment Grant 2023-2024 Project Summary

Orchard View Alternative High School • Poughkeepsie, NY

Students in 12th grade Economics will be completing a unit on Wildlife Rehabilitation and Animal Shelters. The students will explore the economic and emotional costs of taking care of animals as well as what happens in communities when wildlife and shelter pets can’t be properly cared for. The project leaders plan to incorporate hands on experience to create a student-led donation drive as well as a student led project to donate supplies they create in class (such as shelters for feral animals, habitats/supplies needed for local shelters and rehabilitation centers). To achieve this, they plan to support the Poughkeepsie Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic, Dutchess County Animal Control, and/or Hudson Valley Animal Rescue and Sanctuary. Enabling these habitats will be the students main goal.
