Curriculum Subscription for Computer Science Education

Academic Enrichment Grant 2023-2024 Project Summary

Angela Rhodes

Booneville Junior High School • Booneville, AR

This project will fund computer curriculum subscriptions that will support the school’s current first-year programming class,. It will also support the implementation of upper level instruction for more advanced classes and further individualized instruction. The computer subscriptions allow access not only to the course that was already aligned with Arkansas Standards, but will give access to a number of other courses as well including and not limited to networking, virtual reality, AI, web development, and cybersecurity.

Subscriptions will allow for teachers to use their predesigned modules and develop their own, tailor-made courses. This will be advantageous in a small school district where there is a need for more individualization. Features such as the interactive gradebook, the ability to lock and unlock assignments, and control over designing individualized instruction, will enable educators to improve courses. With these subscriptions, a low-income community and rural school district will be able to develop a computer science program track. The program’s intent is for students to be better prepared for today’s careers, no matter what field they choose to pursue.
