At Hedgesville High School, learning extends beyond the traditional classroom through a shared Maker Space where students design, build, test, and create across disciplines. Serving approximately 1,420 students, this flexible environment brings together classes in science, mathematics, English, social studies, fine arts, world languages, and career-focused programs for collaborative, project-based learning. Funding from the McCarthey Dressman Education Foundation will provide the consumable materials needed to keep this high-use space fully equipped, ensuring students have ongoing opportunities for their practical learning experiences.

Whether constructing scientific models, developing data visualizations, designing historical exhibits, or creating multimedia presentations, students will use the Maker Space to apply classroom learning in creative and collaborative ways. The adaptable workspace supports projects of every scale, from independent investigations to large interdisciplinary builds, while strengthening critical thinking, communication, problem-solving, and teamwork. The project will generate a diverse collection of student work, including reflective writing, scientific investigations, mathematical models, public awareness campaigns, multimedia presentations, and project-based exhibits that showcase learning across the curriculum. By supporting a shared creative space used across the curriculum, the project will help cultivate a school culture where curiosity, collaboration and innovation are part of everyday learning.
