Mary Hurd Academy • North Berwick, ME

Teachers at Mary Hurd Academy, an alternative high school, will provide their students with an innovative, student-centered, interdisciplinary, hands-on approach to learning through the implementation of a project-based learning curriculum. They will participate in professional development that will enhance their teaching skills, increase student learning, and improve the culture of the school.

The overall goals of the project are:

  • Increase student engagement as a result of relevant educational content
  • Provide teachers with the tools to differentiate tasks to meet all students’ needs
  • Allow students to showcase their creativity through authentic and individualized assignments
  • Teach students skills that are transferable to future vocations.

By utilizing project-based learning as a vehicle for skill and content acquisition across their curriculum, teachers will shift their approach to teaching and deliver quality academic instruction in a supportive environment.
