Academic Enrichment Grant 2024-2025 Project Summary
Brian Welch
Madisonville North Hopkins High School • Madisonville, KY
The goal for this project is to build a passion for math within a new course entitled, “Geometry in Construction.” The course will connect valuable construction concepts to important academic math content. For example, students will learn to calculate volume and apply it to residential heating and air spaces. Students will measure angles to see first-hand how basic trigonometry applies to home structures such as rafters. The intended goal is that all students will find meaningful connections to concepts learned in a traditional mathematics course. By year two of the course, students will be able to mentor and construct tiny homes in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity.
